Carbide Aluminium Insert

Carbide inserts are interchangeable, usually indexable carbide tips for machining steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and non-ferrous materials. Carbide inserts allow for faster machining and improve metal parts' finish. Indexable cutting tools are usually recommended. Tungsten carbide is the standard insert substrate and is more brittle than HSS. Many inserts have multiple cutting edges (for indexing), have post-machining treatments (such as grinding, polishing, or coating), and are available in different radii if the application requires them. For lathes, indexable tool shanks as small as 1/4" can be found, and for milling machines, indexable milling diameters as small as 3/8" can be found. Several primary geometries significantly impact insert performance: insert shape, leading, and trailing angles. Aluminum is a sticky and easily machinable material. A sharper angle is often recommended to help shear the material rather than pushing it with a sharpened or dull cutting edge.
